Expanding capacity of research centres for sustainable agricultural production

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

Agenda 21 recommends promoting sustainable agricultural output by strengthening and broadening the capacity and scope of existing research centres to achieve the necessary critical mass through encouraging and monitoring research into the development of biological products and processes that are of productive and environmental value and are economically and socially feasible, while taking safety considerations into account.
