Establishing international clearing house for information on waste management and disposal

  • Creating global clearing house for information on waste management issues

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends establishing an information clearing-house with extensive networks at the regional, national and local levels to collect and disseminate information on all aspects of waste management, including safe disposal. It also recommends launching a settlement infrastructure and environment programme following UNCED to coordinate the activities of all organizations of the UN system involved in this area and including a clearing-house for information dissemination on all waste management issues.
