Educating street children
Context
Education provides street children an opportunity to escape the exploitation and poverty that trap them on the street.
Implementation
The Undugu Society runs four slum community schools, which offer a condensed primary curriculum followed by a year of vocational training, and five schools for children who make their living selling scrap, with numeracy as the focus. This is helping some of the estimated 25,000 children living in Kenyan streets in 1992.
