Developing attitudes of service in work

Description

Helping the employment complexes of the world discover that their importance goes far beyond the production of goods. The catalytic effect is that workers and employers see their jobs as important parts of an overall effort to improve the quality of life for people everywhere.

Context

An integral part of establishing occupational significance through structuring purposeful vocation and nurturing individual creativity.

Implementation

Tactics include: determined symbols to develop signs for emphasizing to workers their role in worldwide and local servanthood; creation of structures based on representational participation and accompanied by rituals embodying the stance of service; re-appropriated symbols to intensify the import of symbols from the past; developed myth to deal with creation of a comprehensive life story imaging occupation as service; celebrations to rehearse service within occupations on every level of social organization. An example is a clerk-typist in the World Health Organization who is reminded by symbols and stories that her daily typing and filing are part of a worldwide effort to improve the quality of health care and preventive medicine to benefit all peoples.
