- Strengthening coordination of international programmes
Implementation
This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends coordinating the roles of international organization communities and non-governmental organizations in combatting land degradation and promoting reforestation, agroforestry and land-management systems in affected countries; and coordinating and harmonizing the implementation of programmes and projects funded by them which are directed towards alleviation of poverty and promotion of an alternative livelihood system.
