Assessing costs and financing to ensure sustainable land use planning and management
Implementation
This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.
Agenda 21 estimates that the overall cost would be about US$ 3,000 million annually, including about US$ 300 million from the international community. About US$ 4 million would be needed for strengthening international organizations. Some aspects of this Agenda 21 programme may be funded under other Agenda 21 land use programmes. These programmes should be funded in an integrated fashion.
