Accrediting private sector health services

  • Ensuring quality of health resources

Description

Regulating health service providers, including accrediting hospitals and laboratories, licensing medical schools and physicians, regulating drugs and review of medical practices.

Implementation

In countries where the government's ability to regulate is particularly weak, self-regulation for health care providers is an interim strategy. Brazil is experimenting with self-regulation for local hospital associations and medical ethics boards.
