Background
Viverrids are medium-sized carnivores with long bodies and relatively short legs. Weighing from slightly less than 1 kg to 14 kg. Viverrids are native to southern Europe, Africa and Asia, including Indonesia and the Philippines. Viverrids apparently radiated on Madagascar, where there are a number of endemic genera. The family includes 34 species currently placed in 20 genera, including civets, linsangs, genets, palm civets, toddy cats, binturong, and fossas.
Incidence
The Viverrid family includes 82 species of which 3 are "Vulnerable" and 1 "Endangered" according to the IUCN Red List.
