Threatened lacustrine unconsolidated shore habitats

  • Endangered unconsolidated habitats of littoral zone of lakes and reservoirs
  • Threatened lacustrine unconsolidated bottom shoreline habitats

Nature

Because of high rates of sedimentation, reservoirs, smaller inundation lakes, and farm ponds are very short-lived.

Acidification, toxic substances and pollution resulting in accelerated eutrophication, are threatening the littoral zones of lakes and reservoirs. Shore line habitats are also threatened from development; industrial, agricultural, tourism and housing.
