A considerable amount of nuclear warfare material is stockpiled, the amount being in excess of that required to destroy the population of the planet. This stockpiled material might otherwise be available for use in nuclear power reactors to reduce the energy problem.

Incidence

According to USA Defence Secretary Brown, in 1981 the USA had 9,000 strategic nuclear warheads while the USSR had 7,000.
