Septo-optic dysplasia

  • Optic nerve hypoplasia
  • DeMorsier's syndrome

Nature

Children with septo-optic dysplasia have under-developed nerves from the eye to the brain. Blindness or visual impairment result. They may also have abnormalities of the brain and a poorly developed pituitary gland. Since the pituitary gland controls the hormonal balance of the body, other symptoms may arise, such as growth hormone deficiency or excessive urination due to "water diabetes".
