Sacrifice of political ideals
- Lack of idealism in politics
- Political compromise
- Political expediency
Incidence
In 1993, with an election approaching, the chairman of the Social Democrats in Japan promised to accept Japanese soldiers taking part in the UN peacekeeping operations. Many in the party saw it as a betrayal of socialist ideals, which stand by an interpretation of the "peace constitution" that Japanese soldiers should not take part in foreign operations.
