Risk of contracting AIDS through lesions
Incidence
Only 1 in the 140,000 cases of AIDS in the USA reported up to 1990 involved a dentist who had AIDS accidentally infecting a patient through the blood in an open wound in her mouth. She later developed AIDS.
Claim
AIDS can "theoretically" be transmitted by contact lenses, infected food, mosquito bites, French kissing and contaminated toilet seats.
Counter-claim
WHO claimed in 1991 that all laboratory and epidemiological studies showed that mosquitoes and other biting insects were not capable of transmitting HIV infection, much less non-blood contacts.
