Reckless driving by elderly motorists
- Careless driving by ageing drivers
- Unfit motorists
- Dangers of old people in traffic
- Increased risk of traffic accidents for the elderly
Nature
Elderly people, more than younger people, may lack the necessary skills needed for driving: good eyesight, good hearing, physical strength and agility, mental acuity, and quick reaction times.
Incidence
In the United Kingdom there are few restrictions on elderly drivers. All drivers, irrespective of their age, are expected to voluntarily declare health problems that might affect their driving skills.
The European Union intends to introduce measures requiring all drivers over the age of 70 to pass a driving test every two years.
