Inconclusiveness of science

  • Scientific uncertainty

Nature

Science functions in incremental pieces, thus scientific findings are often tentative and inconclusive and may even contradict themselves. The public has no way of knowing how long a much publicized theory will actually be 'correct' -- or in vogue.

Incidence

For years scientists have correlated high blood pressure with a diet too rich in salt, but recent research reports that high blood pressure may actually result from a diet deficient in calcium, potassium, vitamins and salt.

Claim

Science is the topography of ignorance. From a few elevated points we triangulate vast spaces, inclosing infinite unknown details.  (Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. (1809 - 1894))
