Foreign controls of newspaper and journal propaganda

Nature

Wealth or other means of influence may be used to gain access to the press of another country and use it for propaganda purposes either in support of or to the detriment of the government of that country. If propaganda is used in support it will tend to safeguard the position of the foreign power (investments, effective political control, for example) against a neighbouring country or other powers with a conflicting ideology which may gain influence there. If propaganda is used against the regime, it constitutes infiltration and subversive activity. Reprisals such as imprisonment, expulsion and confiscation may be taken and general censorship and repression instigated afterwards to ensure that the same situation does not happen again.
