Nature
Normally the egg develops within a cyst-like follicle on the ovary. This follicle bursts, releases the egg, and then dissolves in 2-3 weeks. If it does not rupture, it may become a follicular cyst. These are usually small and harmless and disappear within 2-3 menstrual cycles.
