Computer pornography

  • Computerized porn
  • Software porn
  • Dissemination of pornography over the Internet
  • Digital porn

Nature

Computer pornography, one of the newest forms of merchandized erotica, comes in the form of interactive videos featuring porn models and actresses who respond to commands dictated by the computer keyboard. Pornographic films are converted into digital data for compact discs, which thus bestow the videos with realistic detail of sexual scenarios. Some programmes offer a series of choices, which allow the viewer to orchestrate what occurs on screen according to his desires. Many believe computer pornography and its unrealistic manipulation of women serves only to encourage unrealistic sexual expectations by men.

Incidence

After a Tennessee resident complained, a California couple was charged with transmitting pornographic text and images over its member-only bulletin board. The trial is predicted to define the notion of local community standards in the online world.

Claim

Computer pornography is computerized rape. The desire to sexually manipulate a woman by computer is passive expression of depravity, anger and psychic emptiness. Such "progress" further destroys the possibilities for healthy sexual relationships.

Walter Kendrick wrote, "Pornography is always unsatisfied. It's always a substitute for the contact between two bodies, so there's a drive behind it that doesn't exist in other genres".

Counter-claim

Computer pornography, like all other video games, is a source of entertainment and fantasy. Just as children don't practice what they view on a computer screen, adults are unlikely to confuse computer pornography with real life.
