Stations of consciousness - Ansari (Sufism)

  • Maqamat hundred

Description

Among the Sufis, spiritual development is represented by progressive steps or stations (maqamat). One system indicates that there are 10 stations with 10 degrees in each. The first four stations are called: gateways; doors; conduct or behaviour; and character. The second cycle of stations is composed of the three decads called: principles; valleys; and mystical states. The third cycle contains two decads, sanctity and realities; while above this, like the top of a pyramid, is the one decad called: supreme goal.
