Savikalpa samadhi (Hinduism)

Description

In this state one loses all human consciousness for a short time, and perception of time and space is utterly different. One looks into a different world and sees that practically everything is already done. One is only an instrument. One knows the Absolute – God – Brahman but in a sense one is still separate, a certain duality prevents total absorption. One returns from this samadhi back into ordinary human consciousness. There are various degrees of savikalpa samadhi; different ideas and thoughts are experienced without disturbance of meditation. One step further, in nirvikalpa samadhi, all thought ceases. Savikalpa samadhi is said to be synonymous with the samprajnata samadhi of yoga.
