Sauca (Hinduism, Yoga)
- Purity
- Shaucha
Description
The state of impurity and sin arising from many lifetimes of progressive secession from the absolute source of all being is combatted through practice of inner and bodily purity. The practitioner of yoga is on his guard against the body; and desire for inner purity loosens attachment to the body and false identification with it. He works in seclusion, avoiding the polluting influence of others.
Context
One of the five virtues, components of niyama (self-discipline).
