Description

With right outlook and right resolves, bad verbal conduct is abolished. This involves guarding one's language, with abstinence from lies, slander, abuse and gossip. The characteristic is embracing or seizing the listener or associated states; the function is abstaining from wrong speech; manifestation is in abandoning wrong speech.

Context

One of the characteristics of the Eightfold Way of Buddhism attained with the path of bhavana (meditation) and which, together with right acts and right livelihood, constitutes ethical conduct (sila).
