Religious experience as personal devotion and worship

Description

Liberation through devotion, bhakti marga, is said to be open to all. The experience of divine presence may be shattering and awe-inspiring, witness the transfiguration of Christ, and the appearance of Krishna in his fullness in the Bhagavad Gita. The Children of Israel could not look at the face of Moses after his encounter with God. The experience of the holy, of the numinous, may be inwardly transforming and liberating. It contains experience beyond rational expression which is the source of bliss. There is a uniquely religious feeling; and within this deeply felt and transforming sense of the divine is deep intimacy and awareness of grace so that the most simple act of worship or devotion, if wholehearted, may become the medium of salvation.
