Mythic yoga (Yoga)

  • Path of renunciation

Description

This type of yoga is centred on reaching further and further into the inner depths accompanied by total avoidance of and insulation from the external world. Systematic withdrawal from external reality is accompanied by viewing the body as the source of all evil and the female sex as particularly responsible for temptation and spiritual degradation. The yogin looks to permanent liberation from the cycle of birth and death through entering the Absolute with full enlightenment awareness. It is the way of the arhat, the sannyasin, the ascetic, the muni. The final and irreversible act of emancipation and liberation, [kaivalya]

, is also the end of temporal body and mind in death.
