Love with God (Islam)
- Al-mahabba ma'a 'llah
Description
This is loving a person or a thing for its own sake and not for God's. One loves God but one also loves the other. This may be a kind of idolatry or polytheism, where the objects of love are worshipped as an end in themselves. Or it may simply spoil the perfection of one's love for God without excluding one from Islam all together, which is the case of natural love whether for persons or possessions in accordance with nature and appetite. A typical example of love with God is 'ishq, passionate love.
Context
One of three types of love of Ibn al-Qayyim - love to God, love in God (for His sake) and love with God.
