Limerence
- Being hooked
- Romantic love
Description
A condition of preoccupation, or total obsession, with the beloved. Whereas love is affection for the beloved, limerence is adoration of the beloved. There is no desire to do anything other than to be with the beloved, whatever the obstacles. It is the agony of such obstacles that contributes paradoxically to the exquisite pleasure of the experience, despite the anxiety, desperation and risk of losing one's self in the other. Lovers then love the state of being in love, which in a sense blinds them to each other.
