Initiation as spiritual rebirth (Yoga)

In yogic practice, an adept initiates his disciple in a ceremony symbolizing spiritual rebirth. Mundane life is renounced and the novice is reborn with teaching as father and teacher as mother. Both must be shown respect. Because the teacher has followed the path already, he knows it and can show the way.
