God-consciousness as rapture

  • Apollo awareness
  • Orpheus awareness

Description

Human development can lead to a state of consciousness which expresses the attributes of the God, Apollo. This is, on the one hand, Apollo leader of the muses, the god of imperishable beauty; and on the other, it is Apollo the god, who represents mind and true being. In one figure Apollo brings together being, beauty and mind, and indicates that state of intellectual rapture induced by divine vision. This is the vision of beauty absolute (as in Plato's Symposium) or the sight of Beatrice or the Rose (in Dante). It is of such visions that Orpheus sang, with the promise of immortality.
