Description
The term [engram]
is used in Scientology to denote mental images of pain and unconsciousness taken into the memory but neither analyzed nor integrated. Such images are carried in the "reactive" mind from one lifetime to another and are superimposed over the "analytical" mind or reason in times of stress. Although such reactions have their uses they are also the cause of [psychosomatic illness]
, misery and conflict. A part of Scientology religious practice is [auditing]
which has the aim of reversing this pattern.
