Dianetics
- Scientology
Description
Dianetics is concerned with theory and therapy related to mental health and is developed within the religio-scientific movement called Scientology. The human mind is held to be engaged upon perceiving and relating data, composing or computing conclusions and posing and resolving problems. This activity and the healthy survival of man are inhibited by recollections of incidents (engrams) that contain physical pain or painful emotion and force the individual to respond in an unconscious, automatic, stimulus-response manner. The therapy uses a monitoring technique (with what is essentially a simplified polygraph) to guide the direction of sessions in which the individual is constantly brought into confrontation with such incidents until the analytical mind can handle them without detectable emotional reaction. By the use of this technique, referred to as [auditing]
, on individuals in a normal state of mental health, the process creates a condition of positive mental health and the development of individuals of high worth to society.
