Dissociation of affect

Description

In conditions of extreme danger or stress the individual's reactions may be walled off so that he is unaware of emotions and may continue to function. There is an unnatural, blunted calm so that the person feels drugged or machine-like. There may be a reaction after the event when emotional awareness resumes. During the event there is no way of voluntarily controlling the dissociation.
