Breaking point of total conflict (Brainwashing)

Description

The individual becomes confused as to the real truth of his past. He is aware that he disagrees with what is presently being asserted as fact, and is totally estranged from his environment. No longer able to communicate with or relate to any familiar exterior, his feelings of estrangement are exacerbated by seeking to escape the situation through self-betrayal, and extend even to the self he previously was.

Context

A stage reached in thought reform, a system of organized, deliberate and total psychological training which effects individual change through two basic elements – confession (renouncing of past beliefs and attitudes) and re-education (remaking of the individual in the required image).
