Breaking point of basic fear (Brainwashing)

Description

Fear of total annihilation is brought about in a state of total inner and exterior conflict, when the individual is estranged from all those around him and from his own inner self. Physical and mental integration break down, leading to such anxiety and depression that suicide may be contemplated. Delusions and hallucinations may occur as the psyche attempts to protect itself from this fear.

Context

A stage reached in thought reform, a system of organized, deliberate and total psychological training which effects individual change through two basic elements – confession (renouncing of past beliefs and attitudes) and re-education (remaking of the individual in the required image).
