Bodily pleasure

  • Organ eroticism

Description

The different organs of the body can be thought of as more than simply machines fulfilling a useful function but also as "personalities" needing satisfaction from their labour. A "diseased" organ is one which does not perform its function with ease, with sufficient space and comfort and with pleasure in its activity. Failure to allow the body pleasure in its activity can thus truly be thought of as the cause of illness. Without guilt, one should thus provide wholesome, appetizing food to the stomach, comfortable and becoming clothes to the skin, a fresh and varied diet to the brain rather than treating it as a computer. The very condition of being human entails progressive degeneration and illness but one can still live one's life more fully by encouraging the organs of the body to appreciate and enjoy their existence rather than cramping their style and limiting unnecessarily or unnaturally forcing their activity.
