Alexander technique

Description

The Alexander technique is a system by which conscious control of body movements and posture is acquired. The student becomes aware of poor habits of posture and carriage and learns, by conscious and reasoned control, to inhibit such habits and to replace them with improved habits. Through this technique the person develops a means of becoming conscious of his physical self and of his everyday movements. Once such attention to the physical self is developed, improvements and elimination of strain arising from poor habits become possible.

Derived from this technique is a system of correcting unbalanced bodily movements to correct the mental and emotional unbalance that such movements have developed. As the natural reflexes which enable the body to support itself against the downward pull of gravity are developed, the individual gains [poise]

. This is used for treatment of many muscular, neurological, mental and psychosomatic disorders.
