Al-Jami' (Sufism)

  • Al-Jame'

Description

The believer is aware of Allah as the gatherer of whatever, whenever, wherever he wishes. He gathers together the cells that constitute our bodies and can disperse them again at will. Flesh, heart, mind, soul, all the little "I"s, "me"s and "mine"s, all are gathered in one person. The only companion is a man's deeds. The heedless do not see this and are preoccupied with the things of the world, enslaved by the flesh and the ego. However, all will be gathered together at the last judgement, His friends in paradise, His enemies in hell.

Context

A mode of mystical awareness in the Sufi tradition associated with the eighty-seventh of the ninety-nine names of Allah.
