Agonizing prediction (ICA)
Description
This is the overwhelming realization that in daring to decide and act in a particular situation one is predicting the future shape of history. It occurs in situations where one's decision to act has widespread consequences, some of which one is not even aware of; as when Gandhi in the 1920's decided India would secure independence through non-violent action.
Context
In the ICA New Religious Mode in the arena of acting out one's freedom (the life of prayer) the fourth formal aspect is one's experience of universal responsibility or intercession. At the third phenomenological level this occurs one acknowledges that which is beyond one's power to control.
