Transferring sustainable land management practices to and among developing countries
Implementation
This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.
Agenda 21 recommends that global coordination of land resource management activities should be strengthened at the international level, by the various bilateral and multilateral agencies and programmes such as UNDP, FAO, the World Bank, the regional development banks, other interested organizations and the UNDP/World Bank/UN Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat) Urban Management Programme, and action taken to promote the transfer of applicable experience on sustainable land-management practices to and among developing countries.
