Tailoring training programmes in response to structural adjustment impacts
Context
All countries should strengthen or establish practical training programmes for graduates from vocational schools, high schools and universities, to enable them to meet labour market requirements and to achieve sustainable livelihoods.
Implementation
This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends that training and retraining programmes should be established to meet structural adjustments which have an impact on employment and skill qualifications.
