Supporting industry in phasing-out processes generating high risk hazardous waste

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

Agenda 21 recommends that states, with the cooperation of international organizations where appropriate, should encourage industry to promote and undertake research into the phasing-out of those processes which pose the greatest environmental risk based on hazardous waste generated.
