Supporting a holistic approach to forest resources planning

Context

A comprehensive and environmentally sound forestry conservation and development plan clearly defines the roles and rights of government, the private sector and local people (including forest dwellers).

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends establishing necessary intersectoral and programme links, including improved access to information, in order to support a holistic approach to planning and programming.
