Providing in-service training on sustainable development laws
- Training postgraduates to apply environmental legislation
Context
The purpose of these efforts is to develop human and institutional resources to design and implement effective programmes for continuous review and enforcement of national and local laws, regulations and standards on sustainable development.
Implementation
This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.
Agenda 21 recommends training to benefit practitioners from developing countries and enhanced training opportunities for women. Demand for this type of postgraduate and in-service training is known to be high.
