Providing rehabilitation structures for law-breakers

  • Rehabilitating incarcerated citizens
  • Rehabilitating outlaws

Implementation

Pilot Dogs, a company which trains guide dogs for the blind in Columbus, Ohio, has placed the five guide dog puppies in the care of five prison inmates with life-long experience of living with animals. The dogs stay with the inmates from 8 am until 9 pm and are then housed in kennels. The inmates feed them, groom them and clean up after them.

Claim

Surely one of the most effective ways to encourage self-improvement among young offenders would be to link their sentences to achievement in education. A three-month reduction in sentence for every subject they got while in prison would encourage prisoners to keep their minds occupied with studies rather than teaching each other the latest criminal skills.
