Providing parliamentary aid to new and developing nations

Implementation

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) provides technical assistance to the national Parliaments of new and developing countries by mobilizing international support and funding for specific projects. These include expert advice on the structure and working methods of legislative assemblies, the provision of technical equipment and other material resources, and the organization of staff training courses. Recently, IPU technical experts have been sent to: assess the needs of the parliamentary documentation services and develop an assistance project in Tanzania; assist in the newly elected Cambodian Constituent Assembly and draw up a project for longer-term assistance to its successor National Assembly; improve the working methods and develop an assistance project in Viet Nam; assess the Parliament's needs in staff training and electronic equipment.
