Promoting local production of solar cookers
Description
For sustainable promotion of solar cookers they must be produced locally. Cookers should be available when awareness has been created. Development programmes should be planned in such a manner that repair and maintenance are easily accessible to users.
Counter-claim
The development of local production is restricted by: 1. the market is not consumer orientated; 2. a profit motive is unpopular amongst many solar cooking organisations, donors included; 3. little government support is available to manufacturers; and 4. usually small companies or indivuduals are involved. They lack capital and access to credit/soft loans.
