Preparing comprehensive catalogues of water resource information at different sources

Context

Water resource assessment necessitates the strengthening of existing systems for technology transfer, adaptation and diffusion, for development of new technology for use under field conditions, and for development of endogenous capacity. Prior to inaugurating the above activities, it is necessary to prepare catalogues of the water resource information held by government services, the private sector, educational institutes, consultants, local water-use organizations and others.

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.
