Mythologizing

Description

Creating a story of living and dying that reflects the origins and end of existence and the struggle of life in between. The story must be consistent with people's experience of natural and social phenomena and should give them profound significance in history among mankind.

Claim

Mythologizing enriches a people's will to act together and to make sacrifices for their common endeavours. It makes "sense" out of life and death in both rational and non-rational ways.

Counter-claim

Mythologizing taps people's faith without clear reference to their critical intelligence. It thus permits superstition, bigotry and hoaxes.
