UK VOC emissions fell to 2.1 million tonnes in 1996 from 2.2 million tonnes in 1995, a decrease of 4 per cent. Emissions peaked in 1989 at 2.7 million tonnes. Road transport (30 per cent) and solvent use (29 per cent) were the main sources of emissions in 1996.
