Managing floodplains
Context
Lands formed as a result of erosion of mountains by rivers and the transportation of sediment to downstream areas are lands frequently visited by flood and inundation. Cumulative efforts of people on these lands have enabled them to live there. Human activity in turn has affected and transformed the rivers. The present state of rivers is the result of the interaction between water and people.
