Making more effective use of funds for bilateral technical cooperation

Bilateral expenditure to developing countries for technical cooperation, including that related to transfer of technology and know-how, is about US$ 15,000 million or about 25% of total official development assistance. The implementation of Agenda 21 will require a more effective use of these funds and additional funding in key areas.

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.
